About BioTekk

Closing the gap between noticing and being supported

Many people experience long intervals between recognising that something is wrong and receiving appropriate support. Services may also have limited information about what has changed between contacts. BioTekk was established to explore how responsible artificial intelligence can help individuals understand their wellbeing earlier and help human support systems respond with greater continuity.

Our purpose

Time is the
variable no one
is measuring.

The interval between recognising that something is wrong and receiving appropriate support is where much of the avoidable harm accumulates.

Many people experience long intervals between recognising that something is wrong and receiving appropriate support. During that period there may be no record of what changed, no structured way to describe it, and no route to proportionate help short of urgent care.

Services may also have limited information about what has changed between contacts. A consultation often begins with reconstruction — trying to establish, from memory, what the last few weeks were actually like.

BioTekk was established to explore how responsible artificial intelligence can help individuals understand their wellbeing earlier and help human support systems respond with greater continuity.

Our mission

Safe, evidence-led mental-health technology

Our mission is to develop safe, evidence-led mental-health technology that improves access to reflection and support while strengthening, rather than replacing, human care.

Our approach

Multidisciplinary by necessity, not by preference

BioTekk brings together conversational interaction, longitudinal analysis, potential biometric context and structured safety processes. We take a multidisciplinary approach that considers clinical evidence, lived experience, behavioural science, data protection, cybersecurity, human factors and responsible AI.

Our principles

Five commitments
we can be held to

Principles are only useful if they constrain decisions. These five shape what we build, what we claim and what we decline to do.

01

Human-centred

Technology should support human agency, dignity and informed choice. Users should understand what the system is, what it does and where its limitations lie.

02

Evidence-led

Claims should be proportionate to evidence. We aim to evaluate defined functions in the populations and settings for which they are intended.

03

Safety by design

Safety, privacy and governance are product requirements from the beginning of development — not retrospective compliance exercises.

04

Equitable

We aim to identify and reduce barriers, bias and differential performance. Inclusion requires active evaluation rather than general statements of intent.

05

Collaborative

Effective mental-health innovation requires partnership with users, clinicians, researchers, services and organisations.

06 / IN PRACTICE

What this rules out

Presenting the system as a human clinician. Claiming diagnostic capability. Publishing performance figures without their context. Asserting compatibility with a system we have not integrated. Making organisational reporting a route to individual conversation content.

Work with us

Clinicians,
engineers and
researchers.

BioTekk is a small, UK-based development team. We are interested in hearing from clinicians with experience of mental-health pathways, engineers who have built systems where failure matters, researchers in emotional-state modelling and digitally supported care, and people with lived experience who are willing to tell us what is wrong with our assumptions.

We do not maintain a standing list of vacancies. If your work is relevant, write to us with a short description of what you do and what you would want to change about digital mental-health support.

Tell us where
we are wrong.

Scrutiny improves this work. If you are a clinician, researcher, DPO or someone who has used digital mental-health tools and found them lacking, we would like to hear from you.
